Welcome to DANCE CONSERVATORY Seattle
We all have to start somewhere and that is what we’re doing. At DCS, we are here to make dance accessible for all types and identities and are actively growing to fill the needs for the Seattle dance community!
Room to grow!
Boasting an incredible 2,700 square foot dancing space, we all have a space to dance at DANCE CONSERVATORY Seattle.
MISSION STATEMENT
DANCE CONSERVATORY Seattle’s mission is to captivate students with the power of dance by offering a wide range of ballet, modern, and jazz techniques. Our purpose is to engage students in active learning using individualized attention, anatomically sound principles and exploration of movement, music and rhythm. DCS believes liberally educated dancers will flourish in the art form through the improvement of their technique, as well as discovering their full artistic and expressive potential. DCS provides a safe-space and inclusive access to dance—embracing all bodies, identities, and cultures in the Greater Seattle area and across the Puget Sound region. We are committed to nurturing current and future generations of dancers, artists, and choreographers within a supportive and respectful environment.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
“The aim of the teacher of educational dancing should be to develop the taste and appreciation of [their] students for all that is good and beautiful in art and life.”
-Margaret H’Doubler
DANCE CONSERVATORY Seattle’s teaching philosophy is that the student’s dance education comes first. Our goal is to encourage and empower the students to explore their individual bodies and find their unique expressive voices, guiding them to train and develop their inner experience and creative imagination through the expressive qualities of effort and shape.
We are passionate about producing active learners and offering the students an opportunity to problem solve, analyze tasks, and apply what they have learned to achieve a deeper level of personal fulfillment and a richer life overall. We encourage thoughtful observation and peer to peer support that serves as a safe space for discovery of the mind, body, and spirit. As educators, we strive to reinforce a dancer’s belief in their own intelligence and artistry. The process of learning is not always easy, but it is the journey that is most rewarding.
